Meet Katelynn shimanksi, ma
Mental Health Therapist
Katelynn has earned her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Over the course of her work, she has provided outpatient therapy to adolescents and adults from a wide range of backgrounds and life circumstances, and has developed clinical experience conducting psychological assessments with clients spanning childhood through late adulthood. This breadth of experience has given her a grounded, practical understanding of how mental health concerns show up differently across ages and stages of life.
Katelynn approaches therapy as a genuine partnership — one built on curiosity, structure, and steady encouragement. She takes the time to understand the fuller picture behind a client's current struggles: the history, the relationships, the daily patterns of thought and behavior that keep certain difficulties in place. From there, she works collaboratively with clients to identify what's driving their concerns and to build concrete, usable strategies for navigating them, both in and outside of session. Her style balances warmth with directness; clients often describe feeling both deeply understood and gently challenged to move forward.
Her clinical approach is person-centered and strengths-based, drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Rather than applying a single framework uniformly, Katelynn tailors each course of treatment to the individual in front of her — their identities, values, needs, and personal definition of progress.
Katelynn holds a particular passion for working with clients across the full lifespan, from adolescents navigating identity and independence to older adults facing caregiving demands or cognitive change. Her areas of clinical focus include anxiety, ADHD and executive functioning difficulties, OCD, caregiver stress, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, and self-confidence. She is deeply committed to inclusive, affirming care, and works to ensure every client — regardless of background or identity — feels genuinely seen, heard, and supported throughout their time working together.
Outside of the therapy room, Katelynn's curiosity extends into the outdoors. An active member of the Minnesota State Parks Hiking Club, she spends much of her free time hiking and kayaking through Minnesota's state and national parks, steadily growing her collection of National Park Passport stamps along the way. She also enjoys quiet afternoons with a good book and wandering through museum exhibits — pursuits that reflect the same thoughtful attentiveness she brings into her clinical work.
